A Year of Growth

2024 was a big and busy year for the Modern Mobility family. As we look ahead to what 2025 has in store for us, we want to share with you a recap of the best highlights from 2024 and celebrate what a tremendous year we had!

A Star is Born: Introducing Monty Bear

We had many new faces join Modern Mobility in 2024, and one ‘bear-y’ happy new team member joined us – Monty the Modern Mobility bear! This friendly bear is always happy to help, just like the rest of our staff, and made plenty of appearances this year.

Monty got about more than ever in 2024 and became a firm customer favourite. Did you see him on social media or even in-store?

A Special Surprise for Mrs Longworth

Valued customer Mrs Longworth got quite the surprise when we delivered her new wheelchair. She was expecting one of our mobility advisors to bring the new mobility aid to her, but instead got an extra special visit from Monty, who stuck around for plenty of photos and cuddles.

Helping More Customers & Improving Service

Customers are at the heart of everything we do, so we dedicated much of 2024 behind the scenes to improving the service everyone can expect from us at every level. We also aimed to help even more people access the advice and mobility solutions they so deserve.

New Website Launched

In June we launched a refreshed version of our website, built with a better user experience in mind! Whether you want to browse and compare products, enquire about Motability, keep up to date with articles like this one, or find out more about us, the new and improved site is the centre for all things Modern Mobility.

Chorley: New Store, New Team, New Start

September saw us launch our newest in-person location in Chorley! Headed by industry experts Debs and Gary, the Chorley location has already seen plenty of customers walk through its doors. The launch was celebrated with a Grand Opening, featuring the mayor as a guest of honour, plenty of competitions and prizes to be won, and – of course – Monty Bear.

Doing More, Going Further

We’ve not just been confined to helping customers who walk through our doors or order with us online. Through fresh opportunities and exciting partnerships new and old, 2024 was the year Modern Mobility really got around.

Attends Talk at Albion Mill Community Hub

Incontinence is nothing to be embarrassed about as we get older, and breaking the stigma and shame around the topic is important to us. We hosted a talk in June at Albion Mill in Blackburn, along with incontinence protection specialists Attends, to help inform residents of their options and what products they can use to enjoy peace of mind.

Moving People: A New Partnership

We were proud to announce our latest partnership in mid 2024 with Moving People. A Blackburn based independent coach company that has been taking people to beautiful destinations for over 15 years. We believe everyone deserves to enjoy an accessible getaway, which is why through our partnership with Moving People, we are working together to provide specialist mobility equipment for all of their luxury excursions and holidays.

Care Home Quizzes

Throughout the year, mobility advisor Andrew has been hosting free quizzes for residents of partnering care homes, to give the residents something that engages their minds and promotes time for socialising, which are vital for mental wellbeing and brain help as we age. Hannah Goldthorpe, whose fantastic voluntary group delivers the coffee mornings at Albion Mill that Andy frequently hosts quizzes at, had this to say:

“The quizzes hosted by Andy at Albion Mill in conjunction with Friends of Infirmary Area are well received by the people who attend. They really enjoy the quizzes and it’s very beneficial for their mental well-being.”

The coffee mornings cater not only to residents, but also the wider community, meaning everyone is welcome to enjoy the benefits and get involved.

Motability Big Event

As accredited Motability Scheme specialists, we were thrilled to attend Motability’s Big Event in Harrogate. In August we got to talk to so many amazing people, spread the word about how Motability can help customers access a mobility scooter or powerchair, and demonstrate a selection from the latest range of Kymco mobility aids.

Giving Back

We gave back in more ways than one over the last 12 months. We are in the mobility industry because we want to help people, which is why we always aim to help as many customers and good causes in 2024 as we could.

Time For a Cuppa: Dementia UK

In May, all of our Modern Mobility locations raised money in aid of Dementia UK’s Time For a Cuppa annual tea party. Dementia is one of the leading causes of death in the UK, so we set to work selling as many cakes and brews as we could to raise money for such a worthy charity.

Lucy Wins a Scooter!

At our Chorley Grand Opening, one of the competitions we ran gave entrants the chance to win a mobility scooter. The winner was selected at random, and local resident Lucy was the lucky recipient of the prize.
