Five Mobility Scooter Checks Before Use

Five Mobility Scooter Checks Before Use

Now that the better weather is starting to creep into our daily lives, you’ll hopefully be able to get out and about more. This means that mobility products are going to need a once-over to check they are ok for use, particularly if they have been put away in storage for a while.

Here are some tips to make sure you can get out and about safely.

Consider A Service

Nothing beats experts looking over your pride and joy and making sure everything is working correctly.

Much like a car, manufacturers recommend your scooter is checked over once a year and given a tune-up. This is the most cost-effective way to keep your mobility scooter in top condition and any issues may be spotted before they arise.

You can call us even if you did not buy your mobility scooter with us and we will talk you through your options.

Our mobility experts are highly trained with over 30 years of experience servicing & fixing mobility scooters we can do this at your home, or collect your scooter from you.

If you’re ever stuck call your local Modern Mobility store and we can point you in the right direction.

Five Mobility Scooter Checks Before Use

Check the Batteries

During a service, the engineer will check your batteries and ensure they are maintaining the charge levels required.

The last thing you want to do is be stranded, so this is the most important part to ensuring you can get out and about safely.

Check Your Tyres

If you have inflatable tyres they will more than likely have lost some if not all the air in them. Make sure they are inflated correctly as this will aid with grip when you’re out and about, especially in those pesky April showers!

The correct inflation levels will be detailed in your scooter handbook, or call your local mobility shop for advice on these checks.

Also, check for wear and tear to the tread and side walls.  If there are any bald patches or damage these may need to be replaced.

Give It A Good Clean

The last thing you want is to not be looking your best in the sunshine, but cleanliness is also a very important part of the maintenance of your product.

Remove any dampness, dust or debris from your mobility scooter as this could cause issues if left to build up. By giving your scooter a once over while cleaning you may also be able to spot any faults such as rust or lose parts.

Plan Your First Journey

It’s a good idea to stay close to home for your first couple of trips out so if anything happens you’re not too far away.

You don’t need to worry though as our Mobility Scooter Insurance comes with 24/7 breakdown recovery as standard, so if you do suffer issues when out and about on any of your travels, we can get you back home with minimal fuss.

This will also give you a good opportunity to get to grips with the controls again if you’ve had a bit of time away. You won’t forget how to use your scooter, it’s a bit like riding a bike, but you might be a bit wobbly at first, so take it steady and do a few small journeys to start with.

If you have any questions or worries regarding using your mobility scooter again don’t hesitate to give us a call. We will be happy to provide you with information and support as well as expert service should you need any repairs.
