The Riser Recliner Difference

For anyone who struggles to get up and out of a chair then an electric riser recliner chair can make a great difference.

They come in many different shapes, sizes and colours with different features, it is important you do some research and find what is best suited for you and your current and future needs.

Single Motor Or Dual Motor?

The first big decision is whether you need a dual motor or a single motor.

Single Motor

These are operated by one single motor that moves all parts of the chair movement. This single motor moves the backrest, footrest and also rises the chair to standing. When the button is pressed, both the back and the footrest will adjust at the same time. Due to this, single motor riser recliners often cost less than dual motor.

Dual Motor

A dual motor gives the chair the ability to move the front and the back individually. This allows you to sit upright with your legs elevated if you wish or recline the backrest while keeping your feet on the floor. Dual motor riser recliners may be more expensive than single motor riser recliners, however, this doesn’t mean they will be expensive.

Recliner Measurements

When you are looking for your perfect riser recliner, it is important to look at what size chair you will need. If you are looking to buy any riser recliner it is important that you try it before you buy it, to find if the chair is the correct measurement for you you should be able to sit with your hip joints and knees bent and your feet firmly on the floor, this will distribute your weight evenly instead of it just concentrating in your pelvic area. If your feet do not touch the ground when you are sat in this position too much weight will be concentrated on the back of your thighs When you are sat in the chair, you should be sat comfortably without you the armrests being tight and pressing against you. The chair shouldn’t be too wide otherwise you won’t be able to use the armrests properly. If you are purchasing a chair with added headrest padding, make sure that it is in the right position behind your head/neck. As riser recliner chairs can be quite large it is important to check you have enough space for it in your home. As some riser recliner recline flat, it is important to take this into account when deciding if you have enough space for it.

Fabric Options

Most riser recliners come with many different fabric and pattern options. Your riser recliner will most likely take pride in your room so you want it to match the rest of your furniture which is why there is so much to choose from. There are also different back options, you can go for a firm or a softback depending on the padding for example a ‘waterfall back’ offers the most comfort and support. Or you can opt for a simpler design such as a ‘button back’ which goes well with a cosy interior.

Pressure Relief Features

Sitting in one position for extended periods can cause discomfort. You can buy pressure-relieving options to reduce the risk. Some rider recliner chairs have a built-in massage system where air or water can be pumped through the cushions to relieve pressure.

Riser Recliner Chair Arms

If you have problems sitting or standing then the riser recliner arms could be a very important feature for you. Some people find it beneficial to add wooden arm ends often known as ‘knuckles’ to aid them in getting up or sitting down. Knuckles give you a firm surface to hold and grip onto.
