Scooter Canopies: The Perfect Solution?
“Canopies don’t just shelter the scooter and driver from the rain, they offer protection from windchill, which can be painful and debilitating for people with conditions such as arthritis.” – Andy ‘Grandad’ Ainsworth, Mobility Advisor
What They Are
Attached usually to the backrest of the scooter, a canopy acts as a driveable weather shelter for your mobility device. Constructed of see-through windscreen material and a weather durable framework, they offer wet weather protection without compromising visibility or manoeuvrability.

While some canopies only fit certain scooter models and others offer a more universal fit, a good rule of thumb is that scooter canopies are best suited to larger, pavement scooters, such as the TGA Breeze S4.

If you are unsure about whether there is a suitable canopy to fit your specific scooter, our helpful mobility advisors can assist you. If you’re buying a mobility scooter, it might be good to keep in mind whether or not you may benefit from a canopy, and if one will fit the specific mobility scooter(s) you’re considering.
Who They Benefit
“We see customers from all types of demographics buying canopies. It really shows just how wide the range of people who benefit from them is.” – Andy ‘Grandad’ Ainsworth, Mobility Advisor
What Types Are Available
There are three main types of mobility scooter canopies to choose from, depending on the model of scooter you have.
Folding
Folding canopies are permanent attachments to your scooter that can be folded back and out of the way when the shelter is not needed, such as in the summer months. As a permanent addition to your scooter, they save you the time and energy that can be associated with attaching and removing a detachable canopy solution.
Detachable
Detachable canopies keep your mobility scooter completely adaptable, giving you the security of a canopy when needed, but also the freedom of using a scooter without any form of canopy attached.
Some detachable canopies are easier to remove than others. For example, some of our models need to be mounted to the base of your scooter by one of our technicians, meaning the only way to attach or detach it is with our expert assistance.
Canopy Care
- Keep the windshield material clean and clear for optimal visibility while driving.
- Make sure the movement mechanism doesn’t grow stiff from being underused.
- Ensure the canopy stays securely in place and that no seams, snares, or tears allow water in.
“Well-maintained canopies protect your scooter from water ingress, which can lead to major, costly issues. It’s important to take care of your canopy so it can continue to take care of you and your mobility scooter.” – Andy ‘Grandad’ Ainsworth, Mobility Advisor

Other Forms of Weather Protection
A canopy is a great way of keeping warm and dry when using your mobility scooter, but they are not the only choice for wet weather protection.
Scooter Capes, partial or full-coverage scooter covers, and warming scooter cosies are also popular weather protective options, especially in winter and the transitional seasons.
