Your Guide to Stairlifts: What Does Zero Intrusion Mean?

Your Guide to Stairlifts - What Does Zero Intrusion Mean?

In the layout of some houses, a door may be placed at the top of the stairs, particularly in rooms such as basements and underground garages.

In these narrow staircases where the stairs end at the door, a regular stairlift could become a tripping hazard.

With the potential dangers of this in mind, leading stairlift manufacturer Handicare developed a new feature to address this issue – Zero Intrusion.

How Does It Work?

Zero Intrusion removes the rail overrun, allowing you to install a stairlift in these areas without having to make any modifications to your home.

Another key benefit of Zero Intrusion is the position of the stairlift’s footplate. The footplate of your stairlift will finish equal / level with the top of your stairs.

This means there is no need to step off the footplate whilst exiting the stairlift. All you have to do is swivel your seat towards the landing, making it easier to get out of your seat.

Why Would I Need Zero Intrusion for My Stairlift?

As we talked about earlier, a stairlift with zero intrusion is ideal for narrow staircases. Particularly with stairs with a door at the top, the staircase could become a tripping hazard.

This is because as the stairlift and it’s rail will be too close to the door, it would force someone who wants to use the stairlift to precariously navigate their way around the door and top of the stairs.

Zero intrusion creates more space at the top of the stairs, so you can easily use and access your stairlift, making it a great solution for these types of staircases.
