All stairlifts travel by either ascending or descending on a fixed rail attached to the stairwell.
One issue that someone may face when wanting to install a stairlift is when the end of this rail interferes with doorways or passageways.
Not only would this potentially block access to areas of your home, but is also a significant tripping hazard.
To prevent this, you would need to have a feature such as a slide track with your stairlift.
A stairlift slide track automatically slides the track away from any obstacles while the stairlift moves up and down the staircase.
The track moves with you at the same time as the seat is moving, freeing up space at the base of your stairs.
How Does It Work?
Unlike a regular stairlift track, the slide track is slightly shorter than the length of your staircase. This is so when you start to travel up the staircase, the track will move with you.
After reaching the top of the stairs, the track will stop while your stairlift continues moving. You can then safely dismount when you reach the landing.
Designed in a similar way to a powered Easy Hinge, the stairlift slide track works automatically when the toggle or remote control is used.
It is also fitted with safety sensors at either end, ensuring that if the track encounters an obstacle whilst moving it will halt the track.
Why Would I Need a Slide Track?
If you have a staircase with enough clearance from any doorways or passages, then the rail can be used without needing to move it away.
However, when there is not enough clearance it is very important to have a way of folding the track away when not in use.
A stairlift slide track will remove the risk of the tripping hazard, preventing potential injury and maintaining accessibility in your doorways and/or passageway.
